Yesterday, Christchurch was hit by a massive earthquake. The city is devastated; the spire of the beautiful cathedral has fallen in; there has been loss of life.
Words don’t mean much in a time like this, and this website’s normal programming will resume shortly. All we can say is kia kaha, Christchurch.
If you can, please donate. Blankets, tents, clothes and cash are all needed. If you can donate blood, please do so this week. And remember that this can happen anywhere. If you don’t already have an emergency kit, put one together.
If you’re in Christchurch, hug your neighbour. We’re thinking of you.
BookieMonster is based in the Waikato and Auckland: I personally don’t have any friends or family in the city, and my Tweeps are all okay. But Christchurch is one of my favourite places in the world and the idea that the city and the people in it are damaged is just too awful. We may be removed from the disaster, but they’re our people.
Kia kaha, Christchurch. Stand strong.
